Drawing on his family's experience managing bars and selling coffee, Massimo Cerutti founded his own company in 1985. Massimo Cerutti SA specializes in coffee roasting and the sale of premium Italian confectionery products.
100 Years of History
For three generations, the Cerutti family has been successfully working in the coffee, bar, and restaurant sector.
In 1926, grandmother Angioletta and grandfather Alessandro Cerutti owned and operated a restaurant on Lake Maggiore, Leggiuno. Angelo Enrico Cerutti, the youngest of the four children, began his hotel career as a chef in 1937 at renowned five-star Italian establishments, first at the Hotel "Des Iles Borromées" in Stresa, on Lake Maggiore, and then at other five-star hotels in Switzerland.
In 1950 he purchased the "Ristorante e bar Principe" on Corso Italia in Saronno, the city famous for its amaretti biscuits and liqueur, and ran it successfully until 1960. Thanks to the experience gained from 1960 to 1990, Angelo Enrico Cerutti became a promoter of Italian coffee on the Swiss and foreign markets.
Enrico Cerutti's son, Massimo, began his apprenticeship as a chef—the first Ticino apprentice to attend the prestigious Lausanne Culinary School—graduating with honors in 1982. He then continued his training at top Swiss hotels, including the Dolder Hotel in Zurich and the Schweizerhof in Bern. He studied in Germany and England, where he attended the Cambridge Business School and dedicated himself to developing Massimo Cerutti SA – "Il Caffè" and "La Pasticceria."
